Everyone's got a name or at least something close to it. But do you guys know what your names actually mean, or the reason you were given that name? We give pokémon names to set them apart, but does the way you name yours mean anything special? I just named this guy Lemon Twist since he reminds me of striped lemon candy.

It's interesting when you think about it: someone or you yourself has been given this word to identify by and it could have some really deep mean behind it. It could be something that a person thought sounded cute but in the end it's pretty sucky for you. For example, someone could have named their kid after a word that sounds cool yet it could mean horse-shit in the language its from.

I sort of lucked out with the way my parents named me and my siblings, but it has me wondering about everyone else. So tell me what your names mean.

Ha! I didn't have ta worry about that. I named myself~.

I've no idea what 'Cecil' means in any language, but as I was named after my mother I doubt that particular detail was on anyone's mind at the time.

Lucky you? That has me thinking, why did you give yourself the name, Joker?

That sounds like a pretty sentimental reason, unless they thought or hoped you'd be pretty like your mother when you got older.

It's a good name for a ringleader, don't ya think? Kids like it too~.

It's more creative then just naming yourself Ringleader that's for sure~

Though I have to admit it does make people think fun or pranks.

I actually named the rest of the first tier members too- we all came from the same orphanage. Well, most a us, and then Snake came later.

My name is Mimi! It can mean a lot of things, and I'm not sure what meaning my parents had in mind when they picked it out, but I like to think it was "beauty and truth"! I certainly hope it wasn't "ears"! [ She giggles. ]

Did you name them in similar ways? It's pretty easy to tell why Snake has his name.

That's an interesting meaning for such a short name. Though what if they ment you'll have beautiful ears that only hear the truth. That sounds stupids but parents can be weird.

My name is Killua, its a mix up of Killer and kill you. It goes along with the name quirk, I share with my siblings.

[ Mimi giggles. ] That's a sweet way to look at it! Beautiful ears... I like that!

Kill? [ She brings a hand to her mouth. ] Oh dear! Why on earth did your parents give you and your siblings such violent names?

I'm only one with a name like that. The quirk has to do with the syllables in out names. The last syllable in our first name is the start of first syllable in the next sibling's name. I'm the middle child of five kids, my older brother name is Milluki and my younger sister name is Alluka.

[It's sort of creative.]

As for why mine gets the special privilege of being about killing. I'm pretty sure it was an in-joke about the family business.

Oh, I see! [ Mimi smiles in relief. That's actually kind of cute... though, it still leaves the killing part in his name. ]

Family business? Are you... [ She gulps. ] ...yakuza?

Yakuza? [He had heard that word from somewhere before.] That means the Japanese mafia right?

If that's what you mean, no. The family business is assassination.

It's "peony," though I don't usually write it in Kanji where it has the meaning, I think it's much cuter in Hirigana. And easier to read for people, too...

[Apparently not a lot of people get Kanji, whaaatever.]

...I've just known that I've always had that name, honestly. I don't know who gave it to me or if I gave it to myself.

Oh, this sort of thing is pretty interesting, isn't it? Mine's written with the characters for truth and a kind of musical instrument, but that's actually a pretty girly way to write Makoto, so you wouldn't find many other guys using that spelling.

Either way I'm glad I can call you Botan. Though it might because your eyes are the same shade as the flower.

[ and he pulls out a small notebook and pen before writing his name, larger than normal so the characters (真琴) can be easily seen. turning it to face the camera, he continues: ]

Right... so, you can stop me at any time if this gets boring, but this is how you spell my name. "Makoto" can be a name for girls and boys, but most of the time if people were going to name a boy Makoto, they'd just use the first character on its own. The second one means an instrument that's kind of like a harp, so it makes it sound more like the kind of name you'd give a girl. Does that make sense...?

I think I get it. So allow it would just mean the same but the addition give it a female tone?

That something that happens in kanji, right? [Botan had just been talking about how her name was spelt too.]

Yeah, more or less! That first one on its own just means "truth", but if you add the second kanji too, I guess the meaning might be closer to something like "true harp"...? Something like that, anyway!

Of course, then you have names which can have many completely different meanings depending on the kanji while still sounding exactly the same, ahaha.

...Assassination?

[ Ohhhh boy. This kid looks like a decent guy, but looks can be deceiving! ]

Have you ever actually... killed anyone? [ Whether or not Mimi starts freaking out bad will depend a lot on the answer to this question. ]

Sure I have, but I quit being an assassin a long time ago. [The last time he killed anyone was purely in self-defense.]
